The Truth about Spring Salmon Fishing in Scotland

As a fly fishing addict and eternal optimist I always welcome the start of a new Salmon Fishing Season in Scotland, it brings lots of excitement, questions and preparation. Of course I am always a believer that this season there will be more Spring Salmon running than last year and we look at the conditions and try to predict where will be the best place to catch that first springer of the year and also what conditions may the river be in. What tactics will work best and how will I prepare my tackle ready for the 1st of February on the river Dee.

When asked about Spring Salmon fishing in Scotland, I suppose I only really remember those highlights from the previous years, that time when the stars aligned and there were springers taking our flies, that time I caught three Springers in a day in the Snow in early March and that stunning 20lb bar of silver caught in February.

I suppose the reality is quite different and we forget those long hours in the freezing cold searching each and every pool waiting to bump into that elusive springer.

Our good friend Colin Mcloud from Stornoway has put together a tongue and cheek video of the part of Spring Salmon fishing in Scotland that we all forget to talk about....

Those that have spent weeks in the early spring will be able to relate to this video and we hope that you will enjoy it.
