Wild Trout Techniques

For us a days guided trout fishing is all about reading the river and the conditions on the day, what are the trout doing and how will we target them. Working as a team with your guide to ensure that we not only enjoy time outdoors catching trout but also it is important that we come away have learnt some new skills.

Some days we will only be casting dry flies, from dawn to dusk targeting rising trout, these days are special and a real pleasure to be out!

Sometimes the hatch may stop and all of a sudden we are faced with trying some other techniques, be it fishing a "clink and dink" set up, perhaps using a 10' 3# and euro nymphing in some fast pocket water, or swinging spiders through slow meandering pools.

Our guides will always work hard to ensure our guests enjoy a great day out and also come home having leant a new skill. All equipment provided using #3, #4 and #5 rods for different fishing applications.

Brown Trout - Salmo Trutta

Our native wild Scottish trout are an incredible quarry to pursue. They invariably populate some of the most picturesque streams and pools in the area. Quickly switching between hatches anglers need to be alert to ensure we are matching the hatch when they are looking up. The trout that we catch average around 1lb - 1.5lb, and we are often catching trout into the 2lb / 3lb class daily. There are much larger trout around and sometimes we find those large fish between 4lb - 6lb, those large fish can be spooky however each year we catch stunning wild brown trout of 4lb + in these rivers with our guests.
