Hosted Fishing Trips to Iceland 2026: Join TwinPeakes Fly Fishing on the Stóra Laxá

If you’ve dreamed of salmon fishing in Iceland, few rivers capture the imagination quite like Stóra Laxá. With its untouched canyons, glass-clear meadows, and powerful multi-sea-winter salmon, this river represents everything that makes fishing trips to Iceland so exceptional.

In 2026, TwinPeakes Fly Fishing is hosting exclusive weeks on Stóra Laxá’s famed lower beats—offering anglers the perfect combination of world-class Atlantic salmon fishing, expert guiding, and authentic Icelandic adventure.

Why Stóra Laxá?

One of the Most Beautiful and Productive Salmon Rivers in Iceland

Flowing 90 km from Lake Grænavatn to the glacial Hvítá, Stóra Laxá is widely regarded as one of the most scenic and dynamic rivers in Iceland. Divided into upper and lower sections across four beats, it delivers over 110 pools of varied water:

  • high-energy canyons

  • rocky, fast-flowing runs

  • sparkling meadow flats

  • slow, cut-bank pools holding MSW Salmon

Located just 90 minutes from Keflavik Airport, the river is surprisingly accessible—ideal for anglers joining hosted trips to Iceland without the need for long domestic transfers.

The Lower River: Easy Wading & Big Salmon

The TwinPeakes hosted weeks take place on Lower Stóra Laxá (Beats 1–3 & lower Beat 4)—the most productive and accessible section of the river. With 7/8 rods fishing over 60 marked pools, anglers can expect:

  • consistent runs of large MSW Atlantic salmon

  • easy wading on gravel and small stone

  • occasional shallow crossings

  • a mix of technical and forgiving water

This is classic Icelandic salmon fishing, made truly special by the visual, surface-oriented methods Stóra Laxá is famous for.

Surface Fishing at Its Best

For many, salmon fishing in Iceland means small flies, hitches, and heart-stopping surface takes—and Stóra Laxá delivers that in abundance. Later in the season into September the norm would be fishing a combination of surface patterns and weight conehead Red Francis on a floating line.

Throughout the season, anglers regularly encounter big MSW salmon confidently taking:

  • micro flies

  • hitched tubes

  • small Sunray Shadows

  • surface-skated patterns

There are few rivers in the world where topwater salmon fishing is this reliable and this exciting.
